On the 8th October, twenty three elite golfing athletes ventured into the wilds of Norfolk. 14 of us stopped for an excellent full English breakfast at the Warrener near Thetford.

When we arrived at Wensum Valley teams were drawn to compete in the Ryder cup. Normally this is a captain vs vice captain match but sadly our vice Captain Richard was scheduled for an operation so had to miss the trip. Mr Goodge bravely stepped in to take charge of the Luton team against the captains West Ham outfit. We also played for the Jim Harris tray (a pair’s competition - best score on each hole). The Valley course was the venue for this day.
The match was drawn but the honour went to West Ham as they scored more points overall. The Jim Harris tray was won by Chris Westcott and Ken Hammond.

The highlight of the evening was being able to present Yogi with his Covid cup award. This was a putting competition that took place in April 2020 as we were unable to play golf during lockdown.

Our second day was the first day of the trip trophy. This is competed over 2 days with the overall stableford score deciding the winner.
Day one of the trip competition was played on the Wensum Championship course. It was particularly memorable as the best golfer in our society came in with 42 points playing off a 5 handicap! That was one under par for his round. The guys playing with Neil said it was like playing with a professional. Well done Neil. Tim Watkin Rees took the honours for the division 2 players.

Day 2 of the trip trophy was played on the Valley course. This day was won by John Tarbox with 34 points. For the overall results take a look at the photo of the results sheet.

The last night was taken up not only by a lengthy prize giving but also a musical extravaganza led by Tim and Mitch who were supported by two novelty acts performed by Yogi and Damien. BRILLIANT!!

The weather for all 4 days was fantastic. Tee shirts and many beers on the patio.
On the final day many members had to return home to ensure that the taxes they pay will continue to support the captains pension. A few stayed behind to play a scramble on the Wensum course before heading home. A big thank you to everyone who made it such a great memory for me.
Cheers Roy.
